A New Year Under Construction at HES! 🏗️
#buildingfutureleaders
Our RLA teachers have begun using a new curriculum this year that focuses on teaching phonics. The curriculum is from the University of Florida Literacy Institute. All teachers K-3 are spending part of their RLA time focusing on phonics instruction to improve students' ability to decode. Many thanks to our HES PTO for helping us purchase the phonics boards you see pictured below. This resource will be used with lessons throughout the year to help students build an understanding of decoding, blending and manipulating sounds in words. We are excited to see the progress our students will make with the new UFLI Phonics program.
Additionally, our PK-2 teachers are using a new curriculum focusing on phonological awareness, called Heggerty, which will help them with understanding all the different sounds that letters make. These 10 minute mini lessons build oral language skills for students that can later be transferred into using actual text for reading and writing. Take a look at Heggerty in action in PreK!
Both of these programs are research-based and have shown to be highly effective.
As always, please contact the school office for any questions or needs at (254)582-4140. And stay tuned to our HES Facebook page for important information about upcoming events and snapshots throughout the week of the learning happening here! #heschooseslove
