Welcome from Principal Michelle Steele

As principal of Hillsboro Elementary School, it is an honor to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year and to HES!  The faculty, staff, and administration at HES are committed to providing a rich culture and environment that is positive, caring, and safe--where all students feel welcomed and loved. Through innovation and design, we strive to provide students with learning opportunities that will ensure a solid foundation for future growth. We want every student to be actively engaged in academics while also developing social and emotional skills that foster resilience, compassion, perseverance, and empathy.  We embrace the educational opportunities provided by each new day and actively seek new and innovative ways to provide the best instruction possible.
At HES we firmly believe that the success of our students depends greatly on the partnerships we build with our community and our families. These collaborative efforts are an integral part of the success of Hillsboro Elementary School, and we take great pride in the relationships that are built because of them. We encourage you to become involved, whether through our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC), Campus Improvement Committee (CIC), Watch-Dogs or one of the other committees, support groups, or volunteer opportunities aimed at improving our campus. Your feedback and support are essential to our continued improvement and growth. I am excited about the partnerships we will build this school year!

It’s going to be an amazing year! Welcome to the HES Family!

Inclement Weather Information

Hillsboro ISD is dedicated to the safety of students and staff. With winter and the possible threat of snow and ice, the HISD community must know the District has an established plan to determine whether schools will be open, delayed, or closed. The District attempts to decide on waiting or closing as early as possible, usually by 5:30 a.m.

If the superintendent determines to delay or close school, the District’s phone messaging system (Parent Square) will be activated, and the major radio and television stations will be notified. The District will also post this information on the District’s website, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. HISD only posts these notifications if school is delayed or closed — not if it is open as usual.
